About
Disco Down is a Newcastle based Club Night formed in late 2008 on the back of a failed track request at another established club night because it was “too old”. The track was not important, but the dream was… bring the people a night that plays the stuff other clubs don’t.
The opportunity was the re opening of the Red Rooms in early 2009, a legendary venue who’s stage had been graced by the likes of Maximo Park, Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers and the Mighty Boosh.
Our sell-out Opening night saw 250 “Mad For It” music lovers experience an amazing atmosphere rivalling that of Rockshots, Sheffield Leadmill or anywhere worth being in the late 1990’s.
Following this The Second Coming, our second night a month later turned us from a one off in to a monthly night, each of which themed on a defining 90’s album and individually named. However the Red Rooms closed, at a great loss to Newcastle, and the search for a new venue was on…
In December 2009 we will be re opening our doors at Northumbria University, giving our regulars a chance to get their hands on some cheap drink while getting their groove on to all the usual Disco Down Classics and resurrecting Britpop and classic indie amongst the students of today.
Music Policy
Retro Music for Modern People… we traditionally play Britpop, 90’s Indie, Madchester and Mod Classics but given we get so many good requests by our clubbers its hard to turn them down. Come along and test our DJ’s with the weird and wonderful, and if it suits the atmosphere, well play it!
Bands you will hear can be anything from The Beatles or The Animals through to 21st Century big hitters including Kasabian and The Editors with anything in-between. Check out the Bands we like to play page to find out who we love and why we play them along with essential tracks and the Disco Down guide to Britpop.
